NewImage.jpgApple today announced that the new Apple TV has topped over one million sales since the unit was launched back in October, it seems to be selling well but I have to wonder how many people are actually getting that much use out of the box. Yes its great for streaming content from iTunes or renting content but there is no DLNA streaming and limited codec support.  I find mine pretty limited and only really use it for listening to music on my TV, if Apple where to add an app store to the device I am sure I would get more use out of it and then there is Firecore’s aTV hack that promises more functionality but that is not ready for prime time yet. I think the low price point its probably the main attraction at the moment.

I have found the addition of AirPlay adds more value to the Apple TV but for now I have to wonder how many people are really using it.
