image Football fans looking to watch the world cup in HD via Windows Media Center may be disappointed, last year Microsoft and Hauppauge announced Windows Media Center would be compatible with the new Freeview HD standard (DVB-T2) and tuners would be available for the World Cup in June but fans could be left in standard def as it looks like Hauppauge may miss the June date.  In their forums they say  it could be a “ later summer launch” launch due to “T2 tuner components are not yet readily available”, this years world cup will be a big event for HD and it will be a real shame if Media Center missed out.

I am trying to find out when Avermedia’s Freeview HD tuner will be launched but as yet I have no details

UPDATE:

Freeview HD is rolling out across the UK, you can check if your region supports it at http://www.freeview.co.uk/freeview/Services/Freeview-HD2

  1. that is bad news , such a shame DVB2 has taken so long to get here and then misses out on a huge event

i bought my HD TV for the last world cup but HD never happened , 4 years later and apart from the satellite option the Uk continues to be starved of free HD content

    extremely disapointing
