Microsoft released on Feb 23rd, Revision 1.0 of their Cumulative Update for Windows Media Center for Windows 7 (x86/x64). As is usual with these patches, it rolls up a number of previously released updates and this release is no different targetting the followiing issues :

  • Improves the overall experience for systems that are configured by using digital cable card tuners.
  • Resolves backward compatibility issues for some legacy Windows Media Center extensibility applications.
  • Resolves an issue with how recorded TV shows are managed when switching to a user locale that is based on the Hijri calendar.
  • Improves the overall experience when you use Integrated Services Digital Broadcasting (ISDB) tuners. ISDB is a Japanese standard for digital television and digital radio.

My experience in the past of these updates is that its better to let the dust settle for a few days watching the forums and blogs for ‘new’ and ‘unexpected’ issues that sometimes pop up from their installation.

If you want to dive in feet first, the  update is available now from Windows Update, otherwise you can snag it from the links below.

32bit version is available here : Download the update package now.

  1. I was wondering when the first update would be released. I thought there might have been more bug fixes in it however.

  2. Hi,

I don’t know if its just my setup, or whether its coincidence, but since I installed this update, I’ve seen a number of BSODs – up until this point, I’d not had a single one over the 3 months since this setup was created 🙁

I may try uninstalling, since it doesn’t really offer much in the way of benefits for me.

    Tony
