imageIt seems there are more and more apps bringing TV content in to Windows Media Center even if you don’t have a TV tuner. The latest is from TVCatchup.com a web site that enables you to watch live TV on a PC, iPhone or a games console. The UK only service enables 48 channels of live TV to be consumed directly from Media Center and all that is needed is a free TVCatchup acounts, the addin for Media Center (32bit or 64bit) and a broadband connection

There is an impressive list of channels and the installer is nice and simple, it adds a TV Catchup strip in to Media Center and from there you can watch live TV. The Media Center remote control can be used to change channels, it looks like there will be a EPG and recording options but these features are still under development

Under the hood its using a web application but it works pretty well, I doubt it will work on Extenders but I havn’t tested that yet. There is still more development work to be done but its great to have another way of consuming TV with having to have a TV tuner card

According to TV Catchup there are more features on the Road Map:

  • Add Mini Guide.
  • Onscreen Keyboard for login.
  • Prevent Screen Saver.
  • Pause/Resume (this will depend on TVC).
  • Record (this will depend on TVC).
  • Add Radio Channels (when out of TVC beta).

Download the app from TV Catchup and you will need to sign up for a free account to get it to work

  1. This is extremely cool, its the most like watching live TV experience out of all the MCE TV add-ins, you press channel up on the remote and it moves to the next channel, mini guide etc, looks very promising indeed!
