Remember a time before Windows Media Center? Before DVRs and Xbox 360? BBC 4 will be showing how a modern families home be turned back to the 1970’s and

then fast forwarded at the rate of a day per year going through the Seventies, Eighties and Nineties. I can just remember the 3 button TV set in the corner of the room back in the 70s and my Dad’s first betamax video…

The show called Electric Dreams will be out later this year on BBC 4, set your video Media Center up to record it

  1. I remember my mate getting a porno Betamax tape stuck inside his parents player when they were out. It still cracks me up to think of his panic at 16 years old!

  2. I guess I take after my old man then, can remember him having pirated copies of movies on his Betamax VCR. First time I ever saw E.T was on one of those tapes. No idea where he got them from, probably the man in the pub that get you things lol.

Massive player it was with top loader very cluncky, I think it was a Mitsubishi or was that his first VHS player maybe.

I bet this BBC show will be really interesting and you won’t believe the crappy technology and gadgets they had back in the day if your playstation generation and too young to remember the 70’s.

  3. I hope they show that old Atari games console, forget what it was called but it had cartridges not tapes. The tennis game two lines and a square ball hehe, we thought it was amazing, think we were the first on our street to have anything like that all the other kids use to come round to play on it.

You look at the games today and I’m still amazed how much all this has developed, but I guess things were much more simple back then and not as complex and difficult to setup up as today. My mum and dad still can’t program their DVD recorder and getting them on the net so they could use email and skype was hard work I can tell you.

Although my mum even has an iPod now, not my choice obviously but I had to set it all up for her, reminded me why I never bought an iPod or used the dreaded iTunes software.

I use to love my Commodore 64 even though the games never loaded properly, I never had a ZX Spectrum but my mates had them.

    Rose tinted glasses or what!
