I still love my Microsoft Band 2 and they are some great little 3rd party apps available for it. A new app that developer Dan Harris sent me information on is called Bing my Band and it is a simple app that sends Bing’s image of the day to the Microsoft Band. You can choose whether to use a UK or US Bing image and the app works with the original Microsoft Band or the Microsoft Band 2.

As well as sending the current image it will also update the image automatically each day and if you use Sleep tracking it will update once the band wakes up.

The app only costs 79p and there is a free trial available which has no restrictions or limitations. The app works with Windows 10 Mobile and is currently in beta, give it a try from the Windows Store and reward the developer with an in-app purchase if you like the app.

  1. When this was posted the app had a bug specific to Microsoft Band 2 – You would get black bars on the images when sent to Band 2 as they were getting the wrong version of the image.

This was fixed in a fairly recent store update (version 0.1.5.0) and you’ll be able to get correct images that fill up the whole screen on Band 2.

If you had a previous version of the app you need to go into the app and click the button to send the current image to your band, or just toggle off Auto Update if it’s on, wait a few seconds and then Toggle it back on.

From then on the app knows which version of the Band you have and will supply the correct images.

  2. This app has been renamed to Band Daily Wallpaper.

I had to rename is as there was a complaint raised by a company that acts on behalf of Microsoft to identify trademark infringement. Unfortunately the only way to get the app back into the store was to change the name – It took a while to get the app unlocked in Dev Center but finally sorted it and re-published with the same name.

I can now start working on improvements to the app again and I am considering putting the app onto other platforms too.
