When Windows 10 was announced Microsoft said for the first year the OS would be a free upgrade for Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 devices I thought that deal may get extended but it isn’t the case. Microsoft have announced today that after July 29th there will be no free upgrade and it will cost $119 (currently £85 in the UK) for the full version of Windows 10.

The free upgrade offer will end on July 29 and we want to make sure you don’t miss out. After July 29th, you’ll be able to continue to get Windows 10 on a new device, or purchase a full version of Windows 10 Home for $119.

Unlike previous releases it looks like there won’t be an upgrade price at all and that the only way to upgrade a Windows machine will be to buy a full version of the OS. I imagine all this is meant to push users to upgrade before the deadline date but past July 29th I don’t think we will see than many upgraders unless the situation changes.

Also in the post Microsoft say that Windows 10 is now running on 300 million active devices which is an impressive number.
