Microsoft have released the first new build of Windows 10 since the general release of the OS. The new build for Windows Insiders on the fast ring is build 10525 (not 10512 as the last mobile build. The new build has new colour personalisation options but most interesting is improved memory management that should improve Windows responsiveness. Rather than writing unused pages out to the disk it will compress it and keep it in memory which means Windows should work faster. It will be interesting to see how much effect this has on low spec devices.

Memory Manager called a compression store, which is an in-memory collection of compressed pages. This means that when Memory Manager feels memory pressure, it will compress unused pages instead of writing them to disk. This reduces the amount of memory used per process, allowing Windows 10 to maintain more applications in physical memory at a time. This also helps provide better responsiveness across Windows 10.

As with preview releases there are issues with the build, mobile hotspot doesn’t work so you can share out your mobile connection, the language packs are not available and the Movies & TV app will need an update after installing. I Hope this is the start of new Windows features rolling out to testers.

Read the full details on the Windows Blog, I will get a hands on video up on the next couple of days.
