The BBC have updated the BBC iPlayer Radio for the iPhone and iPad adding support for iOS 8. You need the new version to be able to use the app on a device running iOS 8 and the update improves the background audio reconnection issues.

The other change is a new landscape “now playing” view for the iPad which is a little strange as the app is iPhone only and you need to use the x2 button on the iPad. The app is free from the iTunes store.

What’s New in Version 1.5.4

– An essential maintenance release required to support iOS 8
– A new landscape”now playing” view for iPad users
– Improvements to background audio reconnection issues

  1. BBC is not out of the woods yet. The IOS8 app does not appear to be compatible with viewing on TVs as the image appears at a 90 degree angle to the screen. This has been reported on a number of sites but has not yet been fixed as of this date. 23 September.

  2. I have the same problem. My wife’s iPad with iOS 7 works perfectly but mine, with iOS 8 and the latest BBC app.
rotates the picture 90 degrees anticlockwise.
