In what could Nokia’s last new product announcements before Microsoft take over its phone division Nokia have announced three new Android based phones. Nokia call the OS Nokia X Software Platform and the specs are pretty basic. At the bottom of the range there is the Nokia X which has a 1GHZ Qualcomm processor, 4 inch display running at 800×480, 512MB RAM and 4GB of storage. The X+ has a 3MP camera and has 768MB of RAM and the top of the range XL has a 5 inch display 5MP camera plus a 2MP front camera.

Nokia X Software platform is based on the open source version of the Android so you don’t get Googles Android services but there is a Nokia Store and sideloading I supported. Replacing Google services like maps is Nokia’s HERE Maps, Skype and integration with Outlook.com. Looking at the specs these are low cost devices but you do have to wonder if Nokia couldn’t have reach the same price point on a Windows Phone device. It’s going to interesting to see what happens to the X range after Microsoft’s purchase has completed, could it be Microsoft’s introduction into the world of Android or could it be a dead end?

The Nokia X will cost 89 Euros.
