A few months ago the BBC announced that iPlayer would be finally coming to Windows Phone and today it’s available for Windows Phone 8 devices. It’s not quite the full featured app like the iOS and Android versions, it’s more of a shortcut to the mobile version but it does have a live tile and media player.

In a post on the BBC internet blog they say that they have been working to bring the app to Windows Phone 7.5 as well but due to limitations in the Windows Phone 7 platform the BBC and Microsoft decided they are not going to support 7.5 which is a shame but at least there is an app for Windows Phone 8.

What I really want to see is an iPlayer app for the Windows Store with offline features so I can use download shows to my Surface RT for watching on the go.

The app is free from the Windows Phone Store.
