At todays Apple event as many predicted Apple announced the new iPad Mini as well as surprise announcement of a 4th generation iPad. The iPad Mini has as a 7.9 inch screen and has the new lightning connector and has smart covers available.

During the press event it was compared to a Nexus 7 which Apple obviously touted how much better it is but they missed a few points like a lower resolution (and higher price). It was a little strange how they kept talking about the specs in relation to the iPad 2.

The iPad Mini starts at $329 and will be available to pre-order from October 26th (Windows 8 launch date)

The new 4th generation iPad has a faster processor, faster wifi and the new lightning connector but I am sure its going to irk owners of the 3rd gen devices with Apple moving to a 6 month refresh cycle.

More details later but I have to say the iPad Mini and new iPad are nice but I will not be rushing out to replace my 3rd gen iPad or my Nexus 7. I do like the smaller form factor of a 7 inch device and I imagine this is going to sell like hot cakes at Christmas.

More details and spec later.

  1. So, question is, ipad mini or nexus 7 – looking at one of them… no real affinity to either platform, but looking for tablet around that size…

I’m tempted by the nexus, as its cheaper… but that’s just the Lancashire part of me…
