PlayOn Announces PlayLater Mobile for iPhone and iPad

August 1, 2012 – MediaMall Technologies, Inc. PlayOn.

PlayOn announced availability of PlayLater mobile for the iPhone and iPad today. PlayLater is billed as an online DVR which enables users to record videos from 30+ online websites including Hulu, Hulu Plus, Netflix, Amazon VOD, HBO Go, YouTube, CBS, ABC, NBC, Fox, Disney, PBS Kids, Nick, Nick Jr. to the user’s PC. They can then watch these recorded videos on the PC (without the need for an Internet connection) or take them to go on an iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch.

“People are watching more and more ‘TV’ online and the technology just hasn’t caught up. A DVR for this online video content is the next logical step in the evolution of online video. But we aren’t stopping there – we are leapfrogging the cable DVR by making the videos portable. Just put them on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch and take them with you to watch when and where you want – no Internet connection required,” remarks PlayOn CEO Jeff Lawrence. “After experimenting with the free trial, people will realize just how valuable having your content available without an Internet connection can be, and how much money they can save by recording vs. buying digital video.”

PlayLater is targeting customers looking for convenience: (1) users can avoid the frustrating experience of missing an episode or movie before the online listing expires (2) users can watch videos when they have no or an insufficient Internet connection to stream video (like on a plane) (3) users can watch videos when outside the US where online services do not allow access, and (4) consumers can avoid purchasing videos on their iPhones and iPads and instead record those same videos and move them to the mobile device.

“Once a recording is complete, you can watch it on your PC anytime, anywhere or move it to your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch for mobile viewing. The PlayLater mobile app is available for free in the App Store, and moving the videos to your iPhone or iPad via iTunes is fast and easy.” explains PlayOn CTO David Karlton. “Being able to put the recorded files on your iPhone or iPad for mobile viewing was the most requested feature from early PlayLater customers. We are thrilled to be able to offer a free and convenient way to take your PlayLater videos with you.”

A free trial of PlayLater is available at www.playlater.tv. After that trial is up, you will still be able to watch the videos you recorded during your trial for an unlimited period of time.
