Microsoft shuts down MSN Direct service

Back in 2003 Microsoft announced the SPOT watches (Smart Personal Objects Technology), digital watches with built in services like weather and news delivered over FM radio using MSN Direct. In fact SPOT was on more than just watches it was also on devices like coffee machines and sat navs.I seem to remember seeing them at CES in 2006 and wondered if they would ever make their way over to the UK (they never did). The devices stopped being sold n 2008 and as of January 1st the service has been shutdown. I can’t seem many people shedding a tear but there goes another Microsoft consumer service.
