This week Microsoft announced a comprehensive list of TV partners that are coming to the Xbox 360 including BBC,Channel 4 and Channel 5. This will make the 360 one of the best boxes around for watching TV on but according to Gigaom Microsoft are in a race against time to get the Silverlight based streaming components working on the Xbox in time for a late November release.

The framework is code named Lakeview is a modified version of Silverlight with partners using Apple’s HTTP Live Streaming system (surprising not using Microsoft’s Smooth Streaming technology). Apparently Microsoft are making a large amounts changes to the platform causing a lot of testing work for their partners.

Sources say Microsoft has made fundamental additions and subtractions to Lakeview’s capabilities over the past several weeks, causing partners to update and retest their apps with each new release.

With the update more than a month away, there’s still some time for Microsoft to finalize a stable version of the Lakeview code and for its content partners to complete their apps. But with more than 40 content providers signed up to release apps at launch, Microsoft could be in a race against time to get things set and ready for the holidays.

The TV Entertainment features are going to be a key selling feature for the Xbox 360 running up to Christmas so its essential they get the services up and running.
