There is a new jailbreak for the Apple TV that not only does an untethered jailbreak (ie after re-booting you don’t have to jail break it again) but also installs NitoTV. Greenpois0n RC6 is easy to use and doesn’t require any SSH skills so it may be worth trying as NitoTV is a nice addin for the Apple TV. It has all sorts of features, like weather apps, streaming of video files from file shares and browsers. I had it installed on my old Apple TV and like Firecore’s addin it adds a lot of missing features to the box.
There are Mac, Windows and Linux tools available from HERE but be careful according to Engadget there could be issues with wifi and booting with this build
