At the moment the best solution for controlling Window Media Center by voice is to use Amulet’s Voice Remote Control but this comes at a price and I am sure there are plenty of you out there would like a free alternative.
Simonsays is a open sourced project designed to control Windows Media Center with Windows 7′s voice recognition SDK. The setup is not that simple but the developer says once its setup its easy to modify the python script. Obviously you will need a microphone to get it to work and you will also need the .net framework 4.0 and Python libraries but the developer has details the setup steps pretty well.
While this does not have the elegance of Amulet’s setup I am sure its fun for enthusiasts to play with. Download and setup instruction are HERE
Windows 7 (and Vista I believe) include a powerful Voice Recognition SDK. This project is designed to interface with this SDK with a very limited dictionary to handle speech recognition slightly differently from the default OS approach.
In particular, we look to achieve a “Simon Says” approach to voice recognition. Normal speech should never trigger a false positive, but a keyword followed by a command will.
The main goal of this project was for hands free windows media center control. I wanted to be able to say “Computer, Mute” to mute commercials.
