HP Out of the Windows Home Server Market

HP EX490 MediaSmart Server series - Home ServersAnother blow for Windows Home Server, HP have announced they are pulling out of the Windows Home Server market. HP was one of the initial WHS launch partners and did a lot of promotion of the product. Recently HP had been very quiet on the home server front and with Microsoft dropping drive extender this is no surprise.

On the podcast this week Andrew will be talking about the WHS situation and I can tell you he is non to happy!

Here is what Andrew has said on his blog:

So what does this mean?

Well, HP told me that they have moved their entire MediaSmart division over to work on WebOS. This means that there will not be any more MediaSmart Servers.

This also means that there will not be any more software updates to the existing MediaSmart Server range.

And HP have no plans at all to support Windows Home Server Code Name Vail, so if you have a MediaSemart Server and you were waiting for HP to provide assistance in updating to Vail when it is released, you are on your own.
