Is today Windows Phone 7 day?

Today could be a big day for Windows Mobile as Microsoft are set to announce Windows Phone 7, with a new Zune like OS and the dropping of the Windows Mobile name.

The stories seem to be all pointing towards a new phone OS with Zune like UI and breaking away from the Windows Mobile 6 platform. As lots of commentators have said Windows Mobile needs something new for it to compete with Android and the iPhone and this could be Microsoft’s chance to get back in to the game. Yes there are still some Windows Mobile fans out there and devices like the HD2 are nice but for me Microsoft have been left behind. A fresh new OS with a slick UI, Zune features and a new SDK could be interesting.

Microsoft’s Steve Ballmer will host a Windows Phone keynote at Mobile World Congress today (2pm UK/3pm CET) and the event will be streamed live by Microsoft .You can join the TDL Mobile live blog where we will be commenting on the keynote

I really hope Microsoft can get back in the game and come out with a strong platform and one that connect various elements of our digital lifestyle together
