Spotify Media Center app, free or premium?

I was chatting with Martin Millmore the developer behind TunerFreeMCE about a new Spotify project he is working on and he asked an interesting question, free or premium? With Spotify developers can use their API for free but with some restrictions. It won’t have full remote support (no pause, FWD or REV), and will have all of the usual limitations of the free spotify application. He could develop the app to work with premium subscriptions that have a lot more features (such as higher quality audio, pause, fast forwards and rewind integration) but as well as requiring the end use to have a paid account with Spotify Martin also has to pay to use the advanced API so the app could not be free.

So the question is to you would you go for the pay version along with a premium subscription or would free be the way to go? I asked Martin about developing a free and paid version but as Martin would have to pay to develop with the premium API there would have to be a demand for the premium version before he starts.

What do you think, free or premium?

I think the best way is to go would be a free option then if the app looks as good as we all would like and hope, then he could expand on it and go for the pay app as well, for me a free one would be good as I have yet to feel the adds are to much to put up with. Happy New year to you all..

I agree with Hawkeye, I probably would pay for the Spotify service myself but a free version then a premium version would be the way to go. I’m very glad to see an MCE add-in being developed for Spotify, I asked awhile ago on the Green button and even emailed Spotify to see if they had any plans for one.
