Another way of getting BBC iPlayer in Media Center

We seem to be getting more and more ways to get TV in to Media Center that don’t need a TV tuner. The latest is a BBC iPlayer addin from a developer in the Xpmediacenter.com.au community, this app is for Windows 7 Media Center and streams the WMV version of the TV shows and according to commenters on Neowin works on Extenders.

This only works for users in the UK

Can you let me know how this goes “Mark1234″ as may push me to upgrading my vista to windows 7

No joy I’m afraid. It installs but no icon appeared to actually run the thing. Looking at the comments on xpmediacenter and neowin I’m not alone in this.

There is a command line given that I can get to work, but that’s no use when operating with a remote only.

This was on a 32bit Win7 Ultimate RTM. Only installed extras are YAMMM and Media Browser. I’ve uninstalled this plug in.

Working like a charm for me!
It installed itself on the Media Browser custom strip for some reason but that isn’t a problem really.
For a first release I am really impressed. I was hoping somebody would figure out how to ulitilise the wmv option and use it to stream instead of download. Having recently gone extender exclusive it comes in really handy for my daughter’s kids shows.
It needs a little work in organising the videos to make them easier to find but for an alpha release it is spot on.

I did wonder if having Media Browser installed is what was stopping it installing the menu properly. I tried playing with the registration.xml and registering it myself, but still no joy – not surprising as I didn’t really know what I was doing!

I’d be quite happy for this icon to live next to Media Browser, so jealous that’s what it did for you.

I did try using Media Centre Studio to get an icon, but that’s one confusing program to use first time around so I gave up on that. I didn’t even understand how to get rid of the Sky advertiles.

Just tried it on my laptop (64bit Win7 Ultimate RTM with no other plugins installed) and still no icon.

I want this to work, I really do!

I’m not sure how to help you. My media browser strip was created manually using a script from the MB forum because the build at the tine did not create an icon properly. Somebody figured out to add it manually.

All I did was run the installer from the iplayer plugin and it installed itself on to this strip automatically.

I hope you can get it working!

There is a new version of the MSI available on the Aussie site now(v1.3). It still didn’t install a Start Menu strip, but did put an icon into the Extras Library so I can access it from there.

This is now working on both PCs that had failed before, and it does work on my Xbox 360 extender!
