Well this is some excellent news for anyone in the UK. Thanks to the ballot screen approach to browser choice in Europe, Microsoft is now able to offer both the Upgrade version of Windows 7 and the Family Pack (which is 3 Windows 7 licenses for a great price).
For those who don’t know there was a good chance we wouldn’t see this in Europe as Microsoft was due to pull IE8 out lock stock and barrel from Windows 7, which would have killed the upgrade routes. This whole thing boils down to Opera (and a bunch of other browser makers) complaints about Microsoft’s unfair advantages to the EU.
If you’ve preordered the Windows 7 E version (E for Europe) then you’ll be getting the full Windows 7 package along with IE8. In fact it’s not just the UK that gets the full version Ireland, Germany, France, Switzerland, Austria, the Netherlands and Sweden do too.
