It’s been a long while since I worked on the application so I thought it was about time I did some updates on it. So I have dusted out the source code and cleaned it up a bit with the aim of updating the features over the next few weeks. First a reminder of that it does: A while ago I had a problem with recordings failing and so I wanted a way to monitor the status of Media Center and it’s recordings, I found that Media Center does a good job of updating Event Viewer but I didn’t want to dig in to it each time just to check if a recording failed. So Media Center Health Monitor uses these events and makes it easy to see what is going on and it watches for other relevant issues like disk space and Media Center service status. The events are then collected and displayed in the application window and are available via a web application which makes it great for monitoring multiple machines. It also has a status icon in the task bar: green is ok, yellow is a warning and Red is a service issue.

It can also be configured to send emails if a recording fails and there is also Twitter integration, I created a 2nd twitter account and told the application to update that account with events so that I could follow the status account and get Twitter notification when a show recorded etc.

The application was written with the .NET framework 3.5 and deployed as a ClickOnce application, it works with Windows Vista and Windows 7 and now it works with 64bit. To get it working with 64bit there are two MS SQL files needed which can be Downloaded from Microsoft

To get started go create an account, wait for the confirmation email and download the client. Please let me know of any issues or features requests and there is a thread on The Digital Lifestyle.com forums

  1. The app is monitoring great. The twitter updates aren’t working, and i cant connect to the web service.

  2. I had the same problem on my home PC but it works on the office PC
I wonder if its a firewall issue?

  3. Awesome app. Simple, right to the point. Love the web update. I can see where it needs a little polish but otherwise nice. MS might be calling you soon! I can see this being integrated.
