Interview with Doug Berrett on Webguide

Webguide is one of my favourite addins for Windows Media Center and like many in the community I have been upset to see it will not work with TV Pack or Windows 7. One glimmer of hope was shown at PDC when the developer (and former guest on the [tmcs]) Doug Berrett demoed a Live Mesh concept version of Webguide (you can see a video of the session on my blog). Fellow Media Center MVP Pete Stagman has posted a interview with Doug where he talked about a potential new version of Webguide called Webguide Mesh. Checkout Pete’s blog for the interview and while it’s early days it is promising that Webguide is not totally dead and a Mesh version would make perfect sense.

Doug: Yup, the guide data is stored in a different data type and the new WTV format is not supported by Webguide.

Me: This is under NDA, so can you tell me if there is any work being done on a new version of Webguide?

Doug: Actually, I gave a demo of what I’m working on at PDC, so it’s not really NDA.

Me: Awesome, So what can you tell me?

Doug opened up a Live Mesh session on his desktop.

Doug: I’ll show you.
