GeekTonic published the workaround to get Hauppauge’s HD-PVR working with Windows Media Center and today he says that Hauppauge are working with Microsoft to make the HD-PVR work with Windows 7. I know that changes in the structure of the TV drivers in TV Pack and Windows 7 mean that OEMS can develop drivers that work with Media Center without Microsofts help so we could see more devices working with Windows Media Center in the future

Great News for Windows 7 Media Center Users (or even future MC users) – after hearing rumors for weeks, I’ve received confirmation from a reliable source that Hauppauge is working directly with Microsoft to ensure the Hauppauge HD-PVR will work with Windows 7 Media Center.  A driver to make this happen is in the works and the Hauppauge team is working to ensure everything works properly including video capture, video playback, EPG support, scheduling of recordings and IR Blaster support.

  1. Do you have any recommendations on what your favorite vendor is these days for tuner hardware? I’ve got an older Hauppauge dual tuner that is working fine after I did my upgrade to Windows 7. But I see they have newer ones that support HD. (WinTV-HVR-1600 for example). Are these newer ones not able to work at all in Windows 7?

  2. I guess I would prefer that Hauppauge work without Microsoft on this. If they work directly with Microsoft, that means it will take forever for something to be released, and most likely it will be DRM laden with lots of restrictions on how it can be used. Happauge surely realizes that they are a much more effective organization than Microsoft, and with the new tuner SDK and platform in Windows 7, I don’t see why Hauppauge needs assistance or support from Microsoft for the HD-PVR.
