Well this is my first blog post here on the Digital Lifestyle. My name is Andrew Edney and I am an author, blogger and Windows Home Server MVP. Ian has been asking me for a while to blog on here as well as my own blog so I figured that it was about time I got around to doing it!
A quick little bit about myself – I have written and co-written 9 computer books (if you search for me on Amazon, I am not the Andrew Edney who writes all the cat books) ranging from the Xbox 360, to Windows Vista, Windows Home Server and also a couple of books on Windows Media Center.
Anyway, that’s enough about me! I’m sure a lot of you out there are using Seagate hard drives in your systems – I for one certainly am. Seagate have had a lot of problems with a firmware bug on a number of their drives in the last few months, but they have finally got around to publishing a firmware update which should correct this issue.
More information can be found here along with information on how to check if your drive is affected, and how to download and install new firmware.
I recommend you do this as soon as possible, in the last few months I have had 3 affected drives, 1 DOA, one bricked by the bug and one I managed to update before it went wrong.
