This is a bit of fantastic news! We’ve been contacted by Microsoft following our coverage of the Play To feature in Windows 7 pointing us to a white paper that has some great information in it about “Play To” devices. It’s written for those intending to build a compatible device but it’s great information on a feature where the details are fairly sparse.

Microsoft have also offered to answer some questions about the feature so ask away in the comments below! (Obviously we can’t guarantee that your question will be answered, but we’ll certainly pose them).

Will we be able to use “Play To” on items that are on the network, such as music stored in my shared folders on my WHS?
I echo Scotts comments, wiill we be able to ‘play to all’? MS is missing a trick if it doesn’t!!
Will you be able to “Play to” from within the media center interface?
If you look at the white papers on the FrameIt technology (closely related), they state that the first iteration does not support synchronized slide shows to picture frames, but the platform does have the capability to do it and that they plan for a future release to have that capability. I imagine that this holds true for other types of content as well.
