I just picked up on this post by our friend Mark McCall over at Automated Home about SKY TV now offering a subscription based service of 9 of it’s channels, including SKY Sports over the Internet.  Streaming is courtesy of Silverlight, anyone noticed how the established media companies are jumping all over Silverlight for their streaming?

Challenge time for all the Dev Guru’s out there, get it into Media Center for us!

Have a read of Mark’s post for all the deets.

  1. My only concern with this is that by Sky’s own admission, the highest bitrate online stream is lower than their normal compressed SD stream via a dish.
    better than nothing I guess……

  2. It’s interesting that they aren’t going full HD…I suspect that they will – IF their subscription based model works.

  3. if only mircosoft could do a deal with sky sports just like they did with fox sports over in the states were you can do lots of cool stuff in media center with fox sports we over here in the UK would love to have something similar becasue i am a big sports fan a plug-in just for media center

I know what you mean but SKY have SKY plus so they won’t be doing a deal with any other DVR any time soon – I wish they would though! Gonna need to be IPTV to get it there

  5. Hmm…Yougle isn’t currently rigged for subscription services, but it’s a feature I’ve been meaning to add for a while. So the question is – does it work for people outside the UK?
