Windows 7 at the PDC

I wish I could be at the PDC but other commitments mean that I can’t be there so I am watching the keynote about Windows 7 over the web. I should have my hands of a build of Windows 7 soon but here are some of the interesting bits of information from the PDC:

  • A new tabbed task bar, and docking Windows system
  • Updated Start panel
  • Improved Search
  • Home networking  looks vastly improved, all systems around the home link together for sharing content based on libraries . Will be great for sharing content between systems including Windows Media Center
  • Automatic switching to home printer from work printer when you get home
  • More options for personalising the desktop
  • System tray has been really cleaned up and you can customize notifications
  • Touch improvements (they used a HP TouchSmart for the demo), better spacing, navigations improvements and new on-screen keyboard
  • New version of Paint and other Windows apps
  • Multi-touch support
  • Improvements in UAC

As far as I can tell the biggest thing for Media Center users will be the new Library’s for sharing content between PCs around the home. I love the new task bar, I think it’s a big improvement and I can’t wait to try it.
