I mentioned the two updates for Windows Media Center that were put out on Windows Updates this week and Microsoft have released details of the update. On my test system the TV Pack update was installed and then cumulative update has been offered as a Recommended Update

Microsoft has released the October 2008 Cumulative Update for Media Center for Windows Vista. This update rollup is intended for computers that are running Windows Vista Home Premium or Windows Vista Ultimate.

In addition to the fixes that are contained in the updates that are listed in the "Update replacement information" section, the October 2008 Cumulative Update for Media Center for Windows Vista resolves the following issues:
•Fixes an issue in which you cannot seek through recorded TV shows on Windows Media Center systems that have digital cable tuners. Additionally, the recorded TV shows display the incorrect length.
•Fixes an issue in which Windows Media Center Extenders cannot reconnect to a host computer after the host computer resumes from the suspend mode or the sleep mode.
•Fixes an issue which is introduced by in Microsoft Knowledge Base article 950126. In this issue, a video that is paused may resume if you minimize or maximize the Windows Media Center window or if a screen saver starts.
•Implements support for Digital Rights Management (DRM)-free copy for digital cable tuners that have the latest digital cable tuner BIOS versions that support DRM-free copy.
•Expands the solution that was introduced in Microsoft Knowledge Base article 950126 to improve the experience of recording analog TV broadcasts to include set-top box scenarios. Previously, some analog TV broadcasts were blocked with the "protected content" message.
Note This solution does not apply to configurations that use analog TV over digital cable tuners because the BIOS of the digital cable tuners provide content protection.

•Addresses an issue in which incorrect PlayReady API is called.

•Addresses an issue with .wtv files that are listed as unsupported file type after the third-party decoders are installed.
•Addresses an issue with Terrestrial Integrated Services Digital Broadcasting (ISDB-T) digital TV signal when it uses component or composite output.

Ian, do you know if you have TVPack installed will your machine receive BOTH updates or just the TVP one?
If you have TV Pack install both
I have the TV Pack and I installed both of the updates manually. I installed the KB955519 update first, told the installer that I wanted to restart later, installed the KB956147 (i.e. the TV Pack update) second, and then I restarted my machine when prompted.
Everything seems to be working just fine for me now. I’m absolutely LOVING clear QAM!!! There’s nothing quite like watching Survivor in 1080i HD.

On my system I had to make sure my extender wasn’t connected and then I run Windows Update manually and applied all the patches.
Haven’t had much chance to see what, if anything, seems different but so far it seems I am getting better picture quality on standard definition channels. Before, I had to pause or skip back once to get better streaming.
Note that there’s no mention of fixing the API for AddIns in the TV Pack Update.
I don’t think expect to see an API change for a while
The latest Home Server from Tranquil I last looked at Tranquil’s Windows Home Server last year…
I have a downloaded copy of the TV Pack installed. When I tried to apply the updates KB955519 went fine, but when I tried to install KB956147 I received a message that the update does not apply to my system. After reboot, I received the same message. Thoughts?
