Engadget are asking who makes the best HD DVR, and TiVo has taken the lead so you need to get voting for Media Center.
To some, DVRs are a like a religion and switching shouldn’t be taken lightly, but others will take whatever their provider gives ‘em them, if the price is right. Unfortunately, choosing a provider often means choosing a DVR, as satellite providers don’t give you any choice. TiVo is the obvious old favorite, but Vista Media Center has really given them quite a challenge, and to be frank, Tivo hasn’t really done much in the past few years to improve the experience — new features yes, UI enhancements, no. So since we can’t all try every DVR, we want to know, who makes the best HD DVR?

Well, we made it! We got together ...
Even as a media center enthusiast (and an ex-ownser of a series 1 tivo in the UK) i still voted Tivo as for it mts the best all round platform. Microsoft still has some way to go to make MCE the same user experience that Tivo offers. Its getting there, just very slowly!
I too voted for Tivo. I really like media center and media center does a lot. But you can’t beat the ease of use the standalone DVR has to offer. Plus with DVRs you can record HD. Media Center just doesn’t have a good way of doing that. CableCard just isn’t as reliable as it should be. I’m still waiting for DirecTVs windows media center tuners.
Tivo again. VMC has no ability to record any HD sources besides CableCard, and even with that it is limited to the point (where in my Comcast market area) it is about worthless (as far as HD and Premium content goes).
Until someone comes out with HD input capture/tuner cards, Tivo FTW.
I vote for Media Center. Sure Tivo works great, is more stable, etc., but the ability to add plugins makes all the difference. The first time my wife watched it skip past commercials without touching the remote she was sold…
