RadioTime for Windows Media Center

Review by Adam Thursby...

Radiotime is a website that provides thousands of internet radio stations for your listening pleasure.  Anyone who lives in a rural area like I do where there is nothing but country music available on the radio can appreciate this.  Internet radio is also great for anyone who's moved away from an area and misses the local morning show from where they used to live.

The great part about Radiotime is that they've taken a lot of apps and people into account including media center.  Once you sign up for Radiotime, which is free, you can install the Radiotime app to your media center and there you go, thousands of internet radio stations ready to play from any media center or extender on your network.  The fact that they've made this extender compatible is a big selling point for me as my Xbox360 is what is mainly used in my home for media center.

Radiotime also offers another great feature called Red Button.  While the Radiotime account and Media Center plugin are free, Red Button will cost you a one time fee of $29.  There is a 14 day trial to give you a chance to try it out though.  Red Button allows you to use your media center as an internet radio DVR just like you do for TV.  This is a great feature to add if you have certain radio shows you want to hear but are at work at the time, or simply not at home.  You can not only  record certain stations, but specific shows as well, so if you like Rush Limbaugh, Mad Cow or whomever, you'll get your shows when you want them.

With features such as extender compatibility, thousands of stations and shows, and the option to DVR your favorite programming, Radiotime is a great app for your Media Center.  Even if you don't listen to a ton of internet radio, sometimes it's nice for a change and you'll find anything you want to listen to.  I highly recommend adding the app to your Media Center.

another app i am running and although it does have a few niggles due to its lack of support these days , it still works in the main , i found its best use last year , i was working away from home near York in the Uk and the office i was working in had a decent wifi connection , so i connected my laptop to there wifi , ran Radio Time and tuned into my local station from home , i then plugged into the lappy a RF transmitter and broadcast my local radio station to a radio i had close to where i was working, no more funny accents and places i didnt no , and good old South UK accents and news

I emailed the developer of Radio Time a while back about its small problems but unfortunately he said that dev had stopped on it , it is a shame but non the less it still works and serves great radio stations from around the world , my Fav being the US stations

Great review, thanks.  As a result of your review, I've joined radiotime and downloaded their VMC add-in.  The add-in works great for me, even better than radiotime within internet explorer.  Overall, the VMC add-in is one of the best additions I've found for VMC.  Best...  miker
