Facebook Media Center Status Tool

Yes, I have a Facebook account.  I don't visit too often but it does make a nice communication tool from time to time.  It's also a good way to connect to and learn more about people from my past and that I work with.  I was recently on Facebook and decided to do a search for "Media Center".  Not only did I find a group started by Ian but I also located an application which, so far, has been working great and is kind of interesting.

For anyone who is plugged into social websites, it's all about sharing.  Well, why not share what you enjoy watching with your friends?  The Facebook Media Center Status Tool allows you to do just that.  Once installed and approved, your Facebook status will change depending on what you're watching/listening to on the Media Center where you have it installed.

Download is quick and easy.  It's a small file.  Installation went quickly as well.  Before installation, you want to make sure that you allow Facebook to access the data of course.  This can be done from the application page on Facebook itself.  Once you install the app, you have to restart your PC.  When you enter MCE the first time afterward, you will have to log into Facebook from a pop under.  Head back out to your desktop and login.  I recommend clicking the link which will allow your login info to be kept so you don't have to do this every time.  (I hate popups when I start my Media Center!)

So far, it has been updating my status very quickly and accurately.  This is a nice, small app if you want to share what you're doing with your friends.  I could see something like this being very useful for Twitter as well.

One note, if you don't always want to share what's on in your home, there is a way to make the app request your permission every time.  I personally again, hate popups, but I'm sure there are times when you'd like some privacy. Check the app page for details.

Overall, if you're a social site surfer and you want to keep people up to date on your viewing habits, I can certainly give my reccomendation to this app.  With the simple install and the fact that it runs without interference from the user once set up makes it easy to work with and will let your friends know exactly what you're into.
