Hi,

I have tried MCE Backup 2.0 (0.71), for save my prefs on Vista because I use a personal configuration order for the TV channels.

It’s a hard job to reorganize all the channels and the possibility to save this prefs on MCE Backup is great, but when I restore the prefs, these have no effect on the MCE. When I go on the channel list, there are no changes.

I have tried few times, with computer reboot, and nothing…The restore file prefs.xml.org is copied in the programdata\Microsoft\Ehome\prefs but there is no change on the Vista MCE. I have tried to rename the file from prefs.xml.org to prefs.xml, but no result.

What I doing wrong? Can anyone explain how the MCE Backup works?

Thank you.

I wrote mceBackup and must admit I use it more for moving scheduled recordings around rather than the prefs but it should work as you want it to.

I have found that Vista makes it harder to restore, so try: Go in to services and stop the Windows Media Center Receiver and scheduler services.

Then restore the settings with mceBackup, reboot and see if that works

Thank you for your response Ian.

I have tried what you say, but no results. So I have made other tests, and I think I have found the solution but to confirm this, I must make other tests.

I have made a backup of  all the EPG folder in ‘ProgramData\Microsoft\Ehome

After that, I have made a reset of my TV configuration in MCE, closed the MCE, and I have killed all the Eh* processes.

After that, I have deleted the EPG folder, and replace with my backup and started again the MCE. All the parameters of the TV was restored..

This result means that all the TV settings (Channels order and channels frequency without scan). So, I think it’s good, but to be sure, I must make other tests.

so it sounds like the Eh proccesses are stopping the restore.

the only files I think you need are recordings.xml and prefs.xml
