i went to change the registry for WatchedFolders in Vista, but i do not have that entry???  any ideas?

Its possible you are looking in the incorrect place.
Try this go back into the Registry and click on Edit tab then Find enter "WatchFolders" "WatchedFolders" see if that finds it. see if that finds it

Edit sorry its WatchedFolders not WatchFolders.

@KillerVette: Have you ever used the registry before? It’s a dangerous place to be.

Backup the registry first and add the WatchedFolders into the registry, do you know how to do that?

sure...i know my way around pretty well.  i will add it and see what happens.  If i add it and have the recorded tv on the server, it should then show up in Recordtv, correct??

Thats only one step, you have to use Gpedit on WHS to set the settings.

That's the only setting that is needed on Vista (for storing and playing recorded TV), You will need the other settings on WHS.

no luck.  did the WHS settings.  Added the key and rebooted.  doesnt show up.  If i go the Library and Add the Recorded TV, it shows up in the videos section. :(

i added a directory to the Library.  Searched the registry for it.  I found the entry in Media Player/Preferences of the registry.  It used the Key TrackedFoldersDirectoriesX  where X is a incrementing number

On the MCE PC there should be a WHS Shared folder on MCE desktop.

(This is on MCE 2005 but Vista is similar) Click on that folder then recorded TV folder, go to the Security tab then Advanced (lower right). clear the "Inherit from parent the permission entries that apply to child objects.Include these with entries explicitly defined here"  make sure that the check box is uncheck .

Here is what i did so far.  Added D:\ for watched in recorded TV settings.  checked the registry, it was added where it was suppose to be.  Changed it to \\WHS\Recorded TV.   Enabled Guest account on WHS.  followed the steps for WHS.  Did not create a batch file yet.   NO LUCK

Great glad you got it working Smile the Xbox360 will work.

If you could post it back on TGB and let them know you have it working, it may help others who are having a problem, thanks.

Hi,

I've read en followed this great article and I now have 2 vista media centers connected to my WHS. It works great thanks to your exlanation.

But, I've also found a simple workaround, so you don't have to log in and run the batch file.

I will post this workaround today or tomorrow.

Justin if you have a workaround that would be great, looking forward to your post tomorrow.
PS Glad you also have Media Center recorded TV and WHS working.
