I've turned on crossfading in WMP so my music will be played crossfade in MCE (Vista)

Sometimes at the end of one song anther song begins and it jerks ro hangs for a second. It doesn't matter if the music is on local disk or Networ Storage.

Is there a way to solve this?

AMD 3500+

1024 mb

must not be the problem I think.

No solution and still having this problem! One thing I know for sure, the problem is WMP because I installed winamp and all my songs play smooth again. I think the blame is on the fraunhofer codec that WMP is using and can't be changed for as far I know. Is there a way to change it so ffdshow is taking over?

I use ffdshow for all kinds of things and have it configured for playing mp3 with winamp like explained here http://www.reaper-x.com/2006/07/13/ffdshow-guide-to-improve-your-audio-files-quality/ and the sound has been really much improved. but that's my taste off course.

So when does MS come with a solution for WMP playing jerky mp3 audio?

And it's not only with crossfading enabled. When disabled still jerky audio. Perhaps MCE should use winamp as mediaplayer but that’s properly never going to happen. Big Smile

I was having the similar music stuttering problems in Vista MCE. I cured it by ticking the check box "disable all enhancements" on the properties of the soundcard. Since then, no stuttering.

I tried to find that but there are no enhancements in my soundcard settings to disable.

This is my soundcard http://www.sweex.nl/producten.php?sectie=2&subsectie=2&item=57&artikel=751&detail=d connected via toslink to my receiver. The software/driver is digitally signed according to sweex but when installing the driver it says not digitally signed. I placed that question already on sweex support.

I can blame it on everything but it doesn't explain why winamp plays the mp3 smooth on the same pc?? Someone at MS needs to look into it.

Solved!

The problem was DFX Audio Enhancement 8.352 and 8.350 with dfx user interface. Deinstalled 8.352 and reinstalled version 8.017 without the dfx user interface and all music play smooth again.
