I leave my MCE box on 24/7 (I am helping globle warming, with my MCE boxes and WHS!) plus I record to Vista then transfer later to WHS.

Still I will try sleep mode tonight

ok, but why not directly record to WHS? How do you transfer the recordings to WHS, manually or with some kind of tool?

Thanks for testing tonight. I'm curious if you have the same problem.

I don't store direct as I am still playing with WHS and until it's out of beta will not rely on it.

A quick update on my problem.

Have basically decided not to expend too much more energy trying to get recordings going to whs until after RC release. Copying 500gb of dvds off will keep me busy for a few days.

One thing I noticed. I copied several tv recordings to whs trying to at least see if i could play recorded tv from the server - without luck. I was looking in video library today and i found all the recorded tv shows there! I could play them back ok - they did not have the normal thumbnail preview that you get in recorded tv. Why cant i see them in Recorded TV?

 Coma.

The batch file is not needed in RC1 for recording or storing TV on WHS,    RC1 has fixed the problem :)

Edit too add:  Sorry batch file is need for RC1.

Good job WHS team dealing with the security/share issues.  I justed tested it and it works great.

Now if only Microsoft can address transferring/centralizing DRM licenses to WHS.   Its a big problem that is perfectly suited for WHS to handle.  Right now, with protected content we are stuck using the same old PCs we've been using...not a good situation for Microsoft, OEM manufacturers or consumers.

I've installed WHS RC1 and the permissions aren't staying when I reboot?

I did all the steps and modified the "Recorded TV" share by the following:

I logged directly onto the server.
Double-Click "Shared Folders on Server"
Right-Click on "Recorded TV" / Properties
Security Tab / Add / Anonymous Logon / Checked Full Control under Allow with "Anonymous Logon" highlighted

I've tried this several times.. Am I missing some step?!?

thanks,
tom

I don't see the Recorded TV in the Shared Folders on Server?  What steps are you referring to?

Thanks,

It needs to be created.. Go to the WHS Console to Shared Folders and click Add to add a share

Is there a way to make this work with a Vista PC as a server? I tried this but there were no recorded tv shows visable.

I'm trying to find a way to get my shared printer to work on a Vista machine but it won't. That's why I tried Vista as a WHS.

Don't need the answer anymore because I found the solution for my shared printer problem.

You need to enable UAC to install a shared printer from XP to a Vista machine.
