I can't see how this will enable commonly requested scenarios such as playing a bluray or dvd movie accross a network (as I don't think you'd be able to interact with the dvd/bluray menu - only play prerendered streams).

"Play to" is a nice gimmick - but doesn't really solve any problems for me at all.

In this TGB post, Ben Drawbaugh says he thinks they aren't dead: "It should be noted that MS has been telling people on the inside that extenders aren't dead and to wait and see what comes next. So in other words, I don't think are dead."

Why not tell us?? I know I am crazy but I still think it has something to do with ZuneHD.

All that said, small quiet ITX or mini-ATX style systems may be making it to more and more living rooms as people get tired of codec vs convenience trade off. I love my HP extender but I'm starting to lean that way.

" Freeview HD will, for some time, only feature four channels (a fifth is planned for after 2015). In a return to pre-satellite days, those will be BBC, ITV, Channel 4 and Channel 5. And the HD channels will broadcast in 720p resolution "

as much as i like W7 .... its Vista on steroids and the user experience is much the same , being charged full price is NOT a twisted arm behind the back cost my family is willing or able to afford , with 6 Pcs in the house the cost is far to prohibitive

The Eu is not the only ones to blame here ... Msoft are a multi million dollar campany with the best minds in the world at there finger tips and thats the best they can do to for Beta testers and users who solely use there software outside the US ..... disgraceful

I am sure Microsoft took this into account when designing the implementation, but I am doubtful that, just because they bring out Silverlight support for the Dashboard environment, it will be available on Extenders. Maybe there is something available with the new Extender SDK that changes the architecture, but I have seen nothing that indicates this is true. I doubt that they could take advantage of the code they developed and optimized for the 360’s hardware architecture and processors and implement it on multiple platforms. Time will tell, but I am not too hopeful that we are going to see Silverlight as part of the Extender for Windows Media Center experience anytime soon.

 =D-

But I feel somewhat uneasy. Why should I pay for a portable music player with a touch screen when I already have a nice touch screen phone?

I wouldn't expect an Iphone customer to purchase an extra Ipod touch. WinMo still needs a lot of help in the media player app, but I'd rather keep everything on 1 device.

I too am really hating winMo as i have been using it for many years as well hoping that someday it too would be a great OS. I was given a iPod Touch a few months ago and I absolutely love it. It is so smooth and has so much bulit into. I was not a iTunes lover, but it is starting to grow on me. I never used a Zune, because it just seemed like it was made so cheap. I love how easy iTunes gives you podcasts, movies, and music so easily. I was about to jump the MS ship and head over to Mac, but with Windows 7 being such a huge improvement I am excited to see what happens with WinMo7. If that is a good OS I will then old off on jumping over to the iPhone.
