Again this is not a shock, HP had no TVs or Extenders at CES and according to Gizmodo HP have confirmed the discontinued the MediaSmart TV and Connect (extender)
There will not be any follow on MediaSmart TV or MediaSmart Connect products in 2009. With the PC at the center of the experience, HP continues to be committed to delivering high-definition, connected entertainment to consumers around the world
So that just leaves the Xbox 360 and Toshiba, like I have said before I will be surprised the Toshiba device ever goes on sale. With the increase in DLNA devices I wonder if this would lead to a shift in emphasis? Rather than having a unified experience on the TV, maybe we will see each manufacture making DLNA compatible devices that can consume Media from any other DLNA device? On Geektonic Bret is saying maybe Microsoft will bring out their own branded Extender, its a great idea but I can’t see it happening there does not just seem to be the market.
So for now I am sticking with the 360 but I am considering a PC connected directly to the TV if the right hardware came along
