I managed to track down Toshiba’s new Media Center Extender yesterday, it looks like a standard DVD player and in terms of performance from the very brief demo I saw it looked very much like Linksys or D-Link extenders.  The pictures are of the prototype unit and it should be shipping in the 2nd half of the year

No Blu-ray extenders then? It's a bit worrying the lack of news around extenders. What do you think is happening with extenders in general for the future ?

I'd have to say that MS is probably pretty torn about the subject.  On the one hand, you have companies supporting your product.  On the other, it could take away from Xbox 360 sales.  Whether those 360s are used for games or not is moot.  It's still a sale which they can use in their show off numbers each month/year.

Personally, I like Toshiba so I'm glad they're jumping in.  At least they're not putting a Samsung and making one just for their TVs.  Does the market need more than 3 or 4 extenders?
