I'm going to finally rant a little.

Several contests have had the requirement that the recipients be involved in a future story. That is NOT a part of what charity is about and can even be embarrassing to the recipients. I have been avoiding entering these contests simply because, should I win, I don't think it's necessary to put someone that has been down on their luck in the spotlight. If I share with someone, it should remain private, their picture shouldn't be plastered on the net or their story used to generate site traffic.

I am entering, I want the TouchSmart, really bad. With Windows 7 coming next year its definitely worth entering.

unless its just one individual who wants to hide the very fact he just received a charity, others might actually want to thank in public for the givers good-will.

To verify distribution, why not just ship to person(s)/charity mentioned in entry.

I agree with Anon, too many people are doing the \"Justify why you want to win/who you will give to\" and there\'s absolutely no way you can tell who is telling the truth. It\'s just a matter of which person is better at creative writing!

Once a person has won, they will do as they like anyway!

I'm fully on board with some verification of facts but I cannot agree to subject the recipients of the prizes that I give them to public display. I'd be happy to send photos but cannot commit to interviews/public release of why I feel that they are deserving They don't need the insult added to their injury.

I entered. This is such a great way to benefit yourself, and others. I know that people are so skeptical that others will not donate to charity (and with good reason), but I'd love to think that most of us, if given the chance to, would be more than happy to send some of the package off to those who need it. After all, who needs four computers?

Admittedly, I would keep the one for myself.

I don't know, I'm honestly a little sick of most of these contests having the same exact rules for entry... as in, write something about how you're going to give most of this away, and the best story wins.

What happened to creativity?  There's probably been at least half of the sites that have used those same rules.

While yes, that's a lot of computers, and yes most of it would probably be given away to friends and family, what would've been so wrong about some variety in these contests?

I'm going to enter but I will say that it will be difficult to find a charity or other organization to share this with.  I like to act locally and I live in a very small town.  There aren't a lot of organizations here that could benefit from a prize package like this.

We'll see what I can come up with!

Look forward to hearing the winning entry, and what they will do with it. I'm sure there are many great causes that will be helped by the 50 giveaways in total!!

I see no problem with following up on the winner to see how they made out with the prizes. I do hope that whoever does win does not flip the prizes for profit though. It really ticks me off when I read about people doing that.

 The comments I'm reading are valid concerns in gaming. Gaming laws, at least in the U.S., cover how contests should be administered. Each state has different laws. Some of these contests "appear" to, but may not be, violating the law. But this originated from HP, the company that advised their Chairman it was legal to use easesdropping technology, I'm

a skeptic.

I was 2nd gen US tourism in my teens, what's needy in one country isn't in another. In some instances, the recipient might be so needy that a follow up story could make them a target for death squads.  I watched 2 contests that were about creativity. The word "creative" is ambigious. Unless defined well by the user, these competitions are just as random as any other.  One skilled sketch artist was rejected for not doing work that appealed to the blog owner, and that artist was highly skilled. I've bought and sold art, and ran a small gallery while in film school. Once buying $20 worth of art by artists whose work is in National Museums, worth 100 times that because the seller did not believe, and could not be convinced, this was not junk.

Some people living in some parts of the world could sell this for more income than their entire family makes in a year or this could be used to rescue an entire village from disease.

Many commentors on various boards are out of touch. Subscirbe to the UN news feed, even if you don't like the UN.

Whatever the rules are they should not be ambiguous, winners should agree to follow them, and the selection process should be defined, even if the law is being violated

Wow what a giveaway!  If I am lucky enough to win these prizes, the very first thing I would do is surround myself with the boxes and drool a lot.  Then reality would start to seep in and I would have to decide how to distribute these awesome prizes.

Of course the TouchSmart w/ the 25.5 screen would be mine.  The Entertainment Notebook would go to my wife.  I believe I would keep the HDX premium notebook, along with the rest of the goodies.  However if my grandson would ask really nice I might be persuaded to part with the HP Mini 1000 and the Kung Fu Panda DVDs.

The rest of the hardware and software I haven't decided who will get what.

I’ve been to the HP giveaway sites and read the blogs. I see that no one wins with their sob stories. So I won’t give you another. Our family is so HAPPY! My mom is happily disabled at 42. I have had cancer removed, happy they had to take the cervix I am 23. My 22 year old sister has cancer and weighs 86 lbs. My 15 year old sister is depressed because our family is so happy! Oh by the way , myself  and my 22 year old sister have a rare inherited blood disease called Dysfibrinogenemia, only 300 known cases in the entire world. We will probably not survive the disease. But who cares, we are happy! When you win your “Magic” I hope you  don’t just give it to yourself, or college brother. But to a family who truly needs the “Magic. We have an organization in OH that gives you a rebuilt computer, not the greatest, but will help you out. Only one computer per disabled family. If by the “Magic” of X-mas we win. All the computer parts and broken computers will go to  www.atohio.org/contactstaff.html. They will help the disabled. I just wanted to share my family’s happiness with you all. Thank you.

Everyone needs to back up her or his data because drives can fail at any time.

I tend to backup my data on several drives many times a week so I will not accidentally lose everything I hold dear.

Flash drives and portable hard drives are the best because they are small and cheap. Flash drives are more durable than hard drives, but only go up to 16GB. So, choose what you want to use based on how much data you expect to accumulate.
