On the blog for Windows Live for TV they have announced that Beta is closing down, not that anybody has been using this or that is a shock as Chris Lanier reported that it was closing down a while ago. While I don't think it was a good implementation as it was a WPF (Windows Presentation Foundation) application and not a native Media Center application I do think it was a good idea to have a 10 foot version of some of the Windows Live services, such as Messengers

Hopefully the project could get resurrected as a MCML application in the future but doubt it

In the next two weeks, we will be shutting down the Windows Live for TV service that was released in beta in January 2007.

The service which also went by the name Orbit, was a small developer focused beta targeted to 2,000 users and primarily set up to give our passionate Windows Live and Windows Vista Media Center consumers the ability to see and interact with their Messenger contacts and Spaces friends on their TV.

Given the limited demand and use of the service, it never made it out of beta and as a result we are going to be closing it down for the small number of existing participants on June 24th.   Thank you to those of you who were passionate about the service and who provided valuable feedback during the beta; that feedback will help guide future product direction for both Windows Live and Windows.

For all existing customers, after June 24th you will not be able to launch the application, and you can remove the program from your computer by removing the Windows Live for TV Beta (Orbit) program.

Again, we appreciate your passion for Windows Live and look forward to developing great products with you in the future.
