I have recently done the same as you, mainly because of my internet being down and as I was running W7 RC on my main media center I couldnt get the Xbox to connect but am finding it better than using the extender due to the online content from TunerFreeMCE etc working better.

Could you tell us what type of wireless network the laptop was connected with? G or N? And what sort of throughput were you getting on that connection??

Would be good to know what kind of connection speed I need to get this running smoothly over wireless.

Ian,

Do you know if you will be able to archive protected content off a cable card set up and play it on multiple PC's around the home with this new power pack? It would solve two issues for me 1) I could use WHS to store all recorded tv saving precious hard drive space on my PC's and 2) Essentially allow distributed recorded tv around the house.

Hi Ian. I'm a new but now regular listener to the Digital Lifestyle podcast and now also visit this site on a daily basis for updates. Thanks for this review. I'd like to centralise all my tuners into one location and then farm out the signals to a couple of media centers in around my house. Is it possible (using the usual registry hack) to have more than one of these devices attached to the network to make say 4 or more tuners available to each media center connected to the same network?

Um, RF stands for "radio frequency", so "uses a radio signal rather than RF" doesn't make any sense. Perhaps you intended to write "uses a radio signal rather than infrared"?

I was a bit dubious before viewing this. But I must admit I'm quite impressed, less cables and clutter.

I would still only use it as a 10ft Interface so would dither on whether to get the touchscreen version or not.

Overall, very good.

Thickness looks like a standard LCD or plasma. I'm not sure where I am with all-in-ones at the moment - I worry about the obsolescence of the integrated components. I do like the lack of cables though. Still, seems like a high price to pay when you can get an HTPC solution with 7.1 audio and CableCARD tuner for under $1,000 - budurl.com/LMS250Gadgetell Speaking of which, the CEO says you can "add your own tuner solution" - can you just crack open the chassis and add one - how does this work?

I can't thank you enough for this site and everything you do for the MediaCenter Community. Thank you for sharing all the CES information.

I’m very excited about Windows 7 and see the potential and many uses for HP touchsmart. I would love to have one in our kitchen. I just had to scratch my head when he stated “touch makes most sense using the guide”. Without a shared EPG, his demo only leaves me feeling like wow…. These guys really don’t get it. If it was possible to share EPG’s across multiple computers, then I couldn’t agree with his statement. however this isn’t possible using Microsoft MediaCenter.

I use my TouchSmart as a server for my Xbox so I don't want much TV on it but I do use it for looking at the guide so it will be good for me.

Some have the touchsmart as there only device and don't use TV so it should work for them

With out a softsled solution/play to feature in MediaCenter, I dont see the value in making the guide easier to navigate through using a HP Touch smart. Its cool but serves little purpose in the real world

In your video, when you play music, then go to "Now Playing" it was displaying text saying "nothing is currently playing" Is this normal or is it related to the mediacenter crashing in the background before you started playing the music? Just curious.
